The Bird&Diz Legacy Quintet Formed in February, 2022, this will be our 7th exploration of the vital compositions of Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie - progenitors of BeBop - which became the foundation of Modern Jazz.
Our Quintet features these exceptional musicians:
Peter Goggin - alto sax,
Mitch Van Laar - trumpet,
Ted Godbout - piano,
Tom Lewis - bass
Peter Kogan – drums.
Our group has appeared at JazzCentralStudios in Mpls, , The MetroNOME in St Paul, and for 2 summers at the Atrium in Orchestra Hall, Mpls.
Leader Peter Kogan backed up Blues masters Lightnin' Hopkins, Floyd Jones, Honeyboy Edwards and Jimmy Witherspoon, appeared with the Larry Elgart Big Band and played with jazz, rock and blues bands in New York City before joining The Minnesota Orchestra as Principal Timpanist from 1986 - 2015.
In recent years he has released 4 well reviewed jazz CDs. and has appeared at all the major jazz venues around the region ,including The Twin Cities Jazz Festival. Peter's new CD: JUST BEFORE MIDNIGHT was released in June 2022 and features his most recent compositions.
PeterKoganJazzPresents began curating monthly shows last year at The MetroNOME brewery in St Paul and is in it’s second year featuring a variety of combos.
